Semi-interesting aside... There WAS a logo/decal on this neck. It was written in "Fenderscript" but said that word that rhymes with bucker! I immediately took it off!!!!

It would have been hard to pull it out at worship service, no?

It was funny, because I was complaining about Leo Quan and his bridge name when he pulled out this neck with the logo hidden!!!!!

I prefer the sunburst, John. My relatively new "Japan" market Jaguar is that color scheme. Very classic.

Me too, David, but I didn't want to wait until the end of the year on a maybe. My "JetGlo" black model is somewhere on I-80/90 in the middle of Ohio as I type. Scheduled for delivery on Friday, but if it gets to Maumee today and out again, I might see it tomorrow.

I like the Fender maple fingerboard as well, though I don't know why they didn't use the black block inlays that Fender used on the Geddy Lee model. I love my GL model J-Bass. The only thing I don't like about the bass is the lack of the old style ashtray covers, but I can live with it. The "Badass" bridge is also just okay with me. I'm not sure that I like any script that inludes "***" on an instrument that I'm playing.

Not a bad idea actually--get both, swap necks, sell the other one. You'll lose a few bucks but not much--and the maple might look really hot on the black bod....maybe you'd wind up wanting to keep both anyway!

Well, I opted for just the black, and it came. Impressions so far (I just unboxed it and gave it a prelim setup) - it ain't a Rick! Okay, I didn't expect it to be, I mean come on, it is 1/10th the cost. It is nicely finished, decent fit and look, the machine heads are better than expected, the controls don't feel cheap (though most replace them), and I think I got my money's worth.

I haven't plugged it in yet (still at work), so no report on sound.

The truss rod was totally loose, strings way detuned, so I have it adjusted with just a slight bow right now. The bridge is pretty cheap, and I have the adjust screws almost all the way in (bridges up almost all the way) so not to get fret buzz. Right now it is higher than I like, but I want the neck to settle and see where the truss tension needs to be first. No flat edge here, but it *might* have a slight rise where neck meets body.

It looks like the frets were not leveled, so I plan to do a light leveling job on them. The fretboard is fresh sanded (to take off the CV overspray), so it needs to have the dust wiped off and then oil it. Though the strings are supposed to be D'Addario, they do not feel like the sets I've bought, but cheap; I need to replace them, probably Fender flats, if the G string will be long enough (cut for a Rick).

I can't wait to hear how the pups sound. Maybe my little Crate will make it back from supper with me....

Cool John A.! Have a blast! Consider it your "pallette". The sky is the limit when modding these guys, IMHO.


I just won the Gotoh bridge I need for the MIM natural project. I already havein my posession, a custom control panel with concentrics and a three way switch, and SD Quarter Pounder P and SD Stacked Jazz(at the bridge) for Pups. All I need is the bass back from Eric and I can put it all together. The last piece will be a custom pickguard. Did they make P/J's with both bodies?

Curious to find out what you think of the sound John. The one thing I miss with the Jaguar are independent pickup volume controls, but I was intrigued by the active electronics and pickup switching options on that model. As I do on all the basses I buy new or used, the strings come off, partly because I prefer flats and use D'Addario Chromes based on your advice many moons ago on the Rick corporate forum. I'm too used to smoooooth.

I didn't realize that bass you bought was just around $120. It has me thinking. Also, as you can see by my avatar, I likely have at least one black bass with the white pickguard...
