Back in the 80s, when i was a kid, i was often told that Fanta (we had our "local" version) can dissolve nails and metal teeth. Talk about rats...

You just need a Friend in Brownsville TX....
Talking about my hometown. However, like me most of my friends have left. In fact, our most recent high school reunion was held in San Antonio.

It's very easy to find Mexican Coke and other Mexican soft drinks in Dallas supermarkets. I've tried the Coke and didn't really taste a difference, but I know people who do.

"No way. All that phosphoric acid dissolves even whole rats, after just a few days. Rat ****? Never know they were ever there after a few hours even. Just adds flavor and character."
I'll bring you back an unwashed can, Elys.

Thanks Paul! But, how can you tell which cans did not have the insides washed out before filling?

Sounds like the place has changed a lot since you grew up there, Richard...
I am kinda that way about my old high school. No one that went to school there lives anywhere within a thousand miles of the place now. No one has ever even been able to organize a successful high school reunion.
The few folks who stayed in that area long ago dropped way below the minimum number of remaining healthy brain cells necessary to organize anything resembling a high school reunion

Ever use coke to remove rust from guitar hardware?

I have, using a Q-tip. The phosphoric acid in it is great at reducing the iron oxide and other metal oxides. Diet coke, containing other acids, is good for removing bugs from the front bumper of my car too.

Very sparingly. This stuff will dissolve away your tooth enamel, stain them brown, and slowly dissolve your bones and joints, as well as rot your kidneys from the inside out.
But it sure tastes great in small quantities!!
I have used it as battery electrolyte before too, in a pinch....

Cane sugar - so much tastier than beet sugar, which is all you were able to get around here for the last couple decades. Now they are starting to carry cane sugar again - that was what most sugar was until the mid 60s around here. We only use sugar to bake with, but we have made the effort to find cane.
HFCS - harder to metabolize and in just about everything! And we wonder why America is obese. Maybe with the E85 cars becoming so common and the resulting demand for ethanol, HFCS will die a well-deserved death. One can hope.
Forgot to add, as kids, we used Coke straight out of the bottle to take the rust off our bike chrome every spring after a winter in the garage.
