John- Thank you very much for the advice and the diagram. I'll have to try out the bypass and see what it's like. I saved that diagram as well, in case I decide to do it.

Rick- I love the TI sound, myself, and I like the way they play as well. I say go for it. How did you make a foam mute to work with the Hipshot? That sounds interesting.

I just happen to have a bunch of foam samples from Sunmate Dynamic Systems . They are for rebuilding my motorcycle seat but there are so many different densitys that they are fun to cut and use for mutes . I just slide them under the strings in front of the saddles and re-intonate the bass for pitch . Tried the TIs . They sound beautiful but are too flexible for me . I like a tight string so will install some Fender flats 50-100 .
