I think Campbell's using a custom 350 or something...
Petty's playing the Rick, Campbell's playing a Firebird or something like that.

Petty's looks like a 350V63 with a modded body. 3 toasters, Kaufman tailpiece (?), 21 frets. dot inlays, etc.

It's bloody awful to get old, too. Along with that was the 9/11 gig and I'm betting TP didn't get much sleep leading up to that performance and he wasn't in much of a mood, either. IMHO.

Not necessarily. An F-hole guitar can be filled with acoustically unsympathetic material which weighs next to nothing and which would not support acoustic feedback. A good example of this is closed-cell polyethylene foam (the stuff that many boogie boards are molded from, also used in packaging).
Ooh, I'm going to buy some of that; it beats stuffing the hole with newspaper, which I believe is what Pete Townsend used to do.

I've seen more pics of the 610. I must admit, it's a weird little guitar. Tom plays it in "Pack Up the Plantation: LIVE!" on "Don't Come Around Here No More". I've also seen Tom and Mike himself with it in the book "Coversations with Tom Petty".

How were they able to make that guitar look like a 325/350? Wouldn't the rounded edges on the sides of the body be a problem? Wouldn't the 20th and 21st frets extend through the body a litte?

If anyone didn't get it yet, I encourage you to pick up the new 4-disc "Runnin' Down a Dream" anthology package from Best Buy. It features a 4-hour documentary about the band, going back to the early days of Mudcrutch, and also, a 2-hour 30th anniversary concert from my alma mater Gainesville, FL, featuring Stevie Nicks as a special guest. It is Rick-ilicious. During the concert, you realize that Petty's Rics are the cream of the crop, and you can't have any of them ! He has a 60s era, 21-fret 360-12 in nicely-aged Mapleglo, a beautiful 1997 with F-hole, gold guards, and a wonderfully ambered fireglo, and a spiffy-as-hell 660-12 ala his sig model. As old as he looks in the face, he still looks great when he's playing, and his Rics look better on him than they ever would on me, and probably most of us. He also has an old Guild 12-string, Gibson J-200, a cool Tele, SG, etc. I realize that he likes all the same guitars as me - I'm gonna try to get a couple of the models he plays. What the man has done with the chords of D, A, Bm, and G astounds me. Also, Mike Campbell dispells any rumors that you can't solo on a Ric - he is a fantastic guitar player. Check it out - you will love it !

I have never been more excited to see a super bowl halftime show. On second thought, I have actually never been excited at all to see a super bowl halftime show. So this is a first.
