Yes, there are a number of vintage live clips of Creedence Clearwater Revival on youtube that clearly show John Fogerty ripping those tasty leads on his 325. Definitely worth checking out.

Short scale guitars don't have the same 'snap' as longer scale guitars and require a bit more precision in your fingerwork (which, in my opinion, is why they get a reputation as rhythm guitars) but as long as you aren't expecting it be to fully interchangeable with, say a Stratocaster, then 325's can be quite good for lead work too.

But yeah, 325s and 330s are really only similar in number.
