Guilt? pffft. If one feels that they should donate time, money, personal items or whatever, then do so out of pure charity, not out of guilt.

Oh, i do have a 72 (i think) fireglo with checkered binding that by brother borrowed in 1981 and i haven't seen it since...does that count?

I have one bass, 76 4001 jg. And yes, this forum has givin me the need for more, but the lack of stuff in the pocket seems to stop that.

i have felt the same way-i had 12 basses,an alesis keyboard,and an acoustic guitar,and really ,as little as i get to play,it seemed silly for me to have all this stuff laying around. i sold off 6 basses,and the guitar,but am now back up to 10 basses,and having the same dilemma. basically music is something i love,playing bass is a hobby/passion-my problem is i like variety,and changing instruments (all of my basses are fretted 4 strings,though!) i have donated a bass to a memphis music charity (stax museum) as they have a youth music program where the kids learn all those great stax songs. i would like to get my basses down to 3, but 2 of those would be my 4004cii and my 4000. hey sum guys have bass boats....i get motion sickness......

I'm too old for angst or guilt. Like I said, I give where I know the donation goes directly to good, not where so much gets eaten up by charity management. I hate United Way. Giving time is another way to insure direct results.

I've narrowed it down to the 6 basses (and 3 guitars) I can't live without - these are the absolute keepers, and there's also this '73 Fender Jazz that I don't really have to have, but I'm keeping it for now. No guilt at all.

I like Mr Scotts system......1 each........Bills , mortgage etc are taken care of.......I would like to add a nice old hollowbody like a Guild Starfire........Doh!! I do not need another bass . I do not need another bass . I do not need another bass . Mmmmmm.....hollowbody , Doh!

Yes, I understand that produtction "should" resume at some point. To get on a waiting list when there is one to be on puts me in for a looooonnnnggggggggg wait. There's also a question of future new prices (may rival current used craziness) and, of course, there's a question of quality.......hopefully the quality is as good or better but for now it is an unknown. I'd rather make the leap now and hope values don't massively decline.

Brian I'm sure your aware that Wal's are going to be made here again in the UK, as Pete has sold the business to an old employee. I'm still on the waiting list which is still going to be honoured!

Warren, I heard that WAL's are going to be made again. I'm pretty excited about that.

I have 2 basses currently, 4003 MG '01 and a Ibanez ICEMAN EX '07. I had 3 basses, but I just sold my '74 4001 so I can buy a new '07 4003 MID, which I hope to be able to do next week! I'm going to sell the ICEMAN though ( and ONLY play RICs) so I can use the cash to go to Germany again next year. My 8 year old son lives there and I miss him (and Germany) like crazy!

Yes, quite often the guilt sneaks up on me. BUT, I make sure ALL of my family (i.e.
Mortgage, colleges tuition, bills, car repairs, etc.) responsibilities are met first. I can't help
it, I'm Italian, I'm GOOD at guilt!

I don't travel, don't have a new car, don't smoke, drink (frequently that is) basically....I
lead a very boring life.

I volunteer at church by donating my time, money (and I use the term loosely) talents. I
run the local food drive....you get the idea, I'm a boring person. I just like helping people
that are in need of help, but it is selfish because it makes ME feel good.

Anyway, back on thread....I once donated my 5 String Yamaha BBN5 to a young fella
who was in a church that was very poor. He loved it and I felt great. Who knows the
dividends that gift may bring of that young fellow in years to come? I like the idea posted
here earlier, donating to our youth and continuing to the musical landscape of our future
is a cool idea.

My small RIC collection is my safety net that I get to enjoy. I'm not an investor or
collector. I just love to play. I have to keep telling myself that in the past, when things
were rough, I sold my basses and kept only the CS & V63. I'm back in the double digit
ranks and I feel very fortunate. But I remember the hard times and I hope they stay away
for a very long time to come.

From time to time I get too many basses and I start to run out of room as to where to put them ... and from time to time I may need a few dollars so I sell some basses ... but I don't feel guilty having abundance in my life ...
