I remember picking up a big giant Kay electric bass back in the late 60's, giant neck too, I liked it though, but have no idea what model it was and I've never seen another one.

Kent? I'm waiting for the Stella Acoustic reissues, now those were some fine geetars,

I used my H 74 for an early stonesy blues set for 2-3 years.It just has that vibe.

Just called the company. They won't answer much. Nice guys but prices and more information won't be made until the NAMM Show in 2 weeks. You will be able to get more information on their site which will coincide with the date of NAMM. I will be at NAMM. They promise to have finished models available to inspect & play. I like the fact that the new ones will have a truss rod. The pickup is not a DeArmond but something in-house. A fellow I talked to, Chris, says they sound just like the originals.

A guy I know (slightly), Tony Gilkyson, plays a '50's Kay outfitted with filtertrons. Sounds fantastic, looks oddly cool.

When I bought my 2004 4003, the owner of the store was working on the setup of a '49 Kay 6-er.

I agree, Jim. Back in the 50s and 60s (and even 70s) these brands were known for frustrating ****.

They didn't reissue the coolest one: the one with the built-in electronic tremolo.

I doubt the basses didn't have a truss rod, it probably was there but not adjustable.

I wouldn't call the new Kays reissues.

I read an article in a trade magazine that said they were going to be in the $600-$1K price range, street price.

They told me at NAMM that the H22 was going to list at $1150 and $600 was the wholesale.

Wish I could find a way to get one of the H22's at or slightly above wholesale. The new ones look to have a glue in neck instead of a bolt on like the old ones. I've got an old pickup for one so when I get one, I can compare and see if that guy was right when he said the new ones sound the same. I just might put my unused factory RIC horseshoe in the bridge too.....I think it would be a nice combination.

Sounds like the reissues are gonna cost more than some of the originals sell for on ebay.Still,I'd sure like to have a Richie Valens Stratotone.
