I had a guitar made out of that material which is made up of recycled wood chips, which someone had made (not a factory instrument). It was way too heavy to play standing up, but it had a very interesting sound.

As it is an ecological material, I think something could be made from that. You obviously need to make the body very thin or have hallow chambers with some kind of top of another material though.

I used to own a Dobro Model 90 Duolian from about '95 to '97 when I was heavily into Son House and Bukka White. That thing was chrome plated metal and weighed probably 15 pounds! It wasn't the weight that bothered me, it was the fact that it was the most high maintainence guitar I ever owned and always needed something.

Looked just like this one:

I'm wood! :D
Greg - your Squier may be old enough to have been made in Japan, in which case the body should be solid wood. I had a late 80's Squier strat that was made in the far east (not Japan though) that had a plywood body.

I have a friend that has a Rainsong that I've used once or twice. Does that count? 8)

It is definitely MIJ, Steve. It says so right on the headstock.

Are you positive that's not wood? It has one of the best quilted tops I've ever seen.

I have an early Jerry Jones guitar. http://jerryjonesguitars.com/

The guitarist in my band plays an electrical, made of aluminium http://electricalguitarcompany.com/

Both are great instruments, the JJ is a dream to play. My ricks are made of wood though.

I hope this doesn't come across as smart-alecky, but isn't plywood still considered wood? There are lots of higher-end guitars that are made up of laminates, which is really a fancy way of saying plywood, right?

Re Squiers, I may be wrong, but I think the Bullets are still ply.
