I only lived in BH from 1979-81. At the time we were going to the Foothill I had been living in Newport Beach for a few years already. So it was a quick dash up the 405 (back then, the 405 was mostly quick) to Cherry Ave by the gas tower, then a left off the freeway and it was about a mile down on the left, I recall.

Paul, thanks for the link to that wonderful clip.

To the best of my knowledge there is a production gap in the F models between 1960 and 1967. I've never seen an example made between these dates, although the models were still available according to the price list. Graham might be able to offer some insight on this issue.

I've only seen one early style F model with white guards and truss rod cover and that's my 1960 335 aka Fatboy. All of the other F models from this period had gold guards, or gold top and black bottom guard, consistent with Capri models of the period. One was apparently made with a single black guard. Fatboy's serial number is 2V127, one of a small batch of 1958 serial numbers repeated in 1960. My point is that, beyond 1960 one would expect to see early F models with white scratch plates and white TRCs as evidence of ongoing production between 1960 and 1967 when the thinner F models began to appear.

Interestingly, the non-deluxe 330F and 335F models featured neck binding, breaking with the usual Rickenbacker convention of binding on deluxe models only.

F's are definitely one of my favourite things

About 14 months ago, there was a clip on You Tube of George Jones' guitar player using an F-series. However, I lost the link and can't find it.

Jim Reeves' BB 360F is generally credited as a 1961, hence my own reference to the gap being from 1961-1967.

Speaking of Gordon Terry, look what Willie's in Minnesota is not selling:

Ooops, sorry for above the link. Willie's had a vintage 345 as well but it was listed as NFS. But they had pix of it. I guess Willie took it home or someone changed Willie's mind.

Best,

Manta

Darren, Dale Fortune is restoring a 375F with original white guards presently. Besides yours, its the only other one I've seen. He has pictures of it on Beatgearcavern.com. Very cool.

There was the one I did for Graham, which was at the SoCal meet last August. In fact, Dale took tracings from it to replicate the F body, maybe for the one on BGC. Perhaps he can clarify.

Here is Graham's 375F on my table at SoCal '07:

Should have been a fair trade for your Burg 4005, no?!

I see you changed your username!

That's what I said! Graham just kept telling me that he "already paid me for it". I dunno, I still find his story dubious.

Yeah, I was tired of the handle i'd been using since I was 11 and hadn't used at all since about the time I originally registered here anyway. Sloop John B is one of my top five favorite recordings of all time and happens to have my name in it. What could be more perfect? :D
