Curly and birdseye maple still grows here in PA. It's just a little tricky to find.
I've got a few boards of curly hard maple sitting in my garage now. My brother has hundreds of board feet of the stuff right there by you.

Hey Guys! Thanks to all! I've never owned a 4005 before, and I'm excited! Just get a load of that case. A great big f---ing cherry on top!
Yes, I've been very busy. The '59 425 is an amazing guitar...with an original Bakelite bridge!!!
It has the resonance of a light '50s Tele, and when you hit an open chord, it rings all day long!
The '73 Fireglo from The Guitar broker is going back. Ever see a Mildewglo? Well this one fits the bill. When held to the light you see all kinds of gnarly moisture/mildew spots in the clearcoat...not to mention heavy mildew aroma from the guitar and the case. A hurricane Katrina victim??? It would be a perfect candidate for a dream re-finish job...either a pale powder blue, or a faded Bazooka pink would be awesome.

Sorry to hear your '73 has to go back.
When the hurricanes make their way towards us, we wrap all my guitars in 16 mil plastic bags, TWICE...seal them with canvas tape, then tie them together. If you don't have a generator down here when one of these babies strike, mold is a sure thing.
It also depends where he stores his guitars. Being he has so many, he probably has them in self storage or in a garage.
Mine never leave the protection of A/C.

Wow, so this kind of thing is not uncommon to guitars in in hurricane regions?
I'll have to be more carefull and ask appropriate questions in the future.
