Since the fretboard is also CV, I would think that Zymol would be fine on it as well?

If you use Zymol on the fingerboard, it will clean and shine up the frets also. It will just take a little extra work to remove it all from around the bottoms of the frets.

Thanks. The only thing I need to do now is to find Scratch-X and Zymol in my own country(Holland).

Is there an online shop who sells this stuff?
My 4001 '78 really needs a clean up..

I searched for the both of them a while back (Holland). Maybe someone knows of good alternatives?

Both Zymol and Scratch-X have worldwide distribution. If there was an alternative, I would have suggested it years ago, and if anyone has found one for either product, please enlighten us!

For Scratch-X: http://www.meguiars.nl/

For Zymol: http://zymol.co.uk/shop/page.asp?id=45

I get a nice wet look and scratch removal from 3M one-step finish restorer . I've used it on all of my basses including my FG 4004Cii and FG V63.

I got a spray at a music store that I use to clean the strings a fretboard. I lightly spray it onto the cloth first then wipe down the strings and fretboard, works like a charm! I give my basses a proper wipe-down after every use.

I should have added to my previous post that I wouldn't use Zymol on unfinished fingerboards like many Cii basses have.

A very good point, Joey...unfinished boards do very well with Dr. Stringfellow's Lem-Oil, though. I use it on my Gretsches and my 2 C58s to keep those open-pored boards fresh and grime-free.

I keep forgetting to pickup some of that Dr. Stringfellow's Lem-Oil. The one time I remembered to get it, the GC I was at had none in stock!

I use an old soft toothbrush around the frets.

An old electric toothbrush with Maas, cleans tarnished nickel tuners very well too...

Is the fingerboard of a v63 unfinished?

A V63 should have the CV finish on the fingerboard.
