I would start the bidding at $450.00 each.

Only proves that something is worth only what another is willing to pay for it. Vintage parts and instruments in general have gotten ridiculously high in terms of cost these days. That's one of the reasons I got out of that whole deal a few years ago. However, a friend who owns a shop in the DC area was at the Delaware Guitar Show and reported that many vintage only dealers are more than a bit nervous these days about getting stuck with high dollar inventory.

Seven months ago, the going rate for a Les Paul Junior in excellent condition was over $12K ( which to me is inane and an outrageous sum to pay for what was essentially a student model guitar. My dealer pal said that at the DGS, most had the prices slashed to nearly 1/2 that amount and still couldn't move them! Bad news for the dealer but great news for the players who deserve these instruments anyway. Still waaaaaaay to pricey for my wallet though.

RE: the '54 knobs. They were actually made from Bakelite and are far more brittle than regular plastic. Seems that most Bakelite parts are getting harder and harder to find and to find them is pristine shape is getting close to impossible. I agree with everyone else though - $2.5K is absolutely stupid!
