We're talking about Ringo, who was a great drummer in the greatest band, and a great counterpoint to his great bandmates. But that ended nearly 40 years ago.
Recent history has him reinvented as a singer/frontman, which I dare say is not his strong point. However, he has a career because of who he is and what he was part of. It's almost beside the point to judge him on his music. That's just a vehicle to put him in the public eye, for the many who still want or need a Beatle to be in the public eye. He plays the ambassador of '60's Peace And Love well. "Photograph" and a few other gave him some cred at one point.
And you can't blame a guy for wanting work, or attention. He's 67! He's selling more records than me no doubt. If I could be out and about hawkin' my record, good or bad, and having a few people paying attention to me, I'd be doing it. He's lucky.
Lots of his peers are still playing and getting zero attention.
And lots of zeros are playing and getting lots of attention.
I'm happy to see him pop up on the telly, good or bad record. It's interesting to have "known" him since '63.
