Great V63 John! Nice score. I had to vote for the V68 though - love the goodies. What happened to the shoes on her? Keep me in mind if you move the V63.

I just got back from my first gig with the v63 - WOW. This is the first bass i've ever owned with an uncapped HS, and I am sold on it! I admit that I was not a big fan of the horseshoe before - but NOW I see what the fuss is about!

John, the shoes on it were just a facsimile set made by Dale - I didn't like the way they were mounted so I went with a regular cover. But after tonight, I think i'm gonna find myself a real set of shoes for it!

You've got first dibs on it, for sure, but I think i'll be keeping it around. It blows both c64's i've owned out of the water.

That V63 is sweet John! I'm not a huge fan of Fireglo, but that one looks great!

V68 best to look at...
V63 best to play...

Those RI HS sound huge. Take those shoes off and get stuck in!

I love gigging my V's! I keep the HS on full and roll the toaster down to about 7 most of the time.

In what way, tone or feel?

Between my (un-capped) 2003 C64S, my 1998 V63, and my 1992 V63, the '92 has the best neck by far. But the winner in the tone department isn't as easy to pick. My C64S sounds fantastic. Before the cap was bypassed, it sounded annoying and feeble. But now the thing just HONKS!

I'm talking feel-wise here, Jeff. The v63 just feels a lot more...solid? It wouldn't be fair for me to compare them tonally though, since I never uncapped either of my c64's.

I felt the same way about my C64 before the cap was bypassed. Now it sounds great. Different feel though from my V63.

Yes. It wouldn't be fair to compare them tonally! Because the uncapped bass will sound...better!

I haven't noticed any difference in build quality or "solidity." If anything, I'd say my C64S feels more solid, because its heavier. It has a thicker headstock and more girth to the neck than my '92 V63. All are great basses, BTW.

I voted for the v68 as it seems to be more of a work horse.

Thanks John. As to the uncapped HS pickups, I too found I liked my RIHS uncapped. Also true with the '75 high gain bridge pup - I have the cap switch on it but find I use/prefer it cap out. With the switch, you can hear how Ricks go a rep for thin trebly sound.

John, I just looked at the closeup of the body on the V63. It looks like the shoes are not shaped like the RIHS shoes on mine. Is it possible your shoes are magnetic and the old ones?? Are the pole pieces magnet rods or screws? Does a piece of steel stick to the shoes?
