I'd stay away from Rotosounds on any 60's Rickenbacker bass personally. Too much potential neck grief, due to tension, although I'm not too sure about the flats. Anyone?

Another vote for the D' Addario's 40-95.

My '73 is being set up with TI Jazz Flats right now. I had Fender flats on it for a while, and while I dug the sound for the most part, I did not dig the tail lift they seemed to be causing. I'm hoping the Jazz Flats help out there a bit. The lift sure isn't good.

is it a 'gapped toothed' tailpiece? if so, those Fenders are some high tension flats!

I just ordered TI flats. there were two different sets. long scale and 32" scale. the latter has lower tension and are a bit thicker. I bought both. I have some Rotosound Tru Bass (black nylon taped) in 32" scale at home, and seems that scale can fit the 4005. will let you all know as soon as they come in. maybe some of you already know, but in case..all the above posts speaks of TI in general with no reference of scale and tension..

I think all the TI references here are to the JF344 set - Jazz Flats, 34" scale, 4 string. This set fits a 4001/4003 perfectly.

Right, mine's JF344. A little hard to track down. Musician's Friend jacked the price on these by $10 sometime within the last couple months.

Bryce, no gap -- and the tailpiece had a little lift when I got the bass, but it's gotten a bit worse.

I have two sets of ORIGINAL Ric flats that I can sell, if anyone's interested. I had sold several to Elys, and some to a few other members. They're in the original sleeves but no boxes. They were singles in a music store... many years ago. Perfect shape due to storage in the southwestern US.
I have some pics somewhere, but perhaps someone that bought from me can chime in on them (John A. )
I sold them for a higher price previously, but $75 shipped to the CONUS will do.

According to John Hall, TIs are as close today as you can get to the Maximas. That was before the Optimas came around. Supposedly, Optimas are being made like the old Maximas.
