Yeah, just think, if the chroming job was a little better it would be ALMOST perfect!

Mine has that too. It's a brass one too. I contacted the dealer & they said that they just sort of come out that way. No biggie. My 'G' string has never sounded bigger!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Guitar Parts Resource is a good site, but they have no control over the quality of the chrome, which by the way, sucks on the one at the top of this thread. You would deal with any warranty issues through Hipshot directly. The stock tailpiece/bridge assembly can be modified to work nearly as well as the Hipshot, As David will attest....and without chrome issues.

I modified that tailpiece for David so that the bridge would no longer tilt back and was adjustable from the front. I also cut out the center tooth and polished the saddles to resemble vintage ones. David didn't want me to add the two screw holes to the rear of the tailpiece(like the early 4003's) but that would have improved sustain and tone even more.

Does anyone know where to on-line order the black aluminum version? I got the brass one and it's way too heavy. Besides, I've gathered the aluminum is brighter sounding like the original stock tailpiece.

John Hall has already frowned. He talked to the owner of Hipshot about the trademark infringing shape of the part and was told that no more would be made once existing stock was depleted. Hipshot was proudly displaying the bridge at the NAMM show in spite of this.

What did you do to keep the bridge from tilting back?

I drilled and tapped the bridge for the next size up adjusting screws that were about an inch long and then drilled out their pockets in the tailpiece through and into the body about 1/4". No more more tilt and better sustain.
