It would seem to be a waste of great tonal possibilities to have a bass with three pickups and only one tone control.
Brian, this is a VERY rough Paint drawing but I think this is what you mean. The neck and middle pup are switched together, the bridge is on the other side of the switch, and all are adjusted by the tone control.
