Not to many for me
Got a 1990 325v59 MG from my uncle for £500,
he paid 1200 for it ,to much even then ,but thats what we were up against in Befast back then.

Then my cousin sold me his 330 JG for £500, mint and unplayed condition.

Of course i have since sold both of these guitars, and regret it big time :(

Two i also regret not pulling the trigger on
Back in 1989 when i was getting ready to buy my 360/12 V64
the shop i was getting it from (Musicground in the UK)also had a 1964 360 /12 O.S FG,they wanted £1650 !
But i was 19 and could barely get the money for the V64, so i had to let it go.Should have tried harder

Then around 1991 one of my local shops had a 1964/65 1997 with trem and original silver case
Now they hadn't a clue to the real value of this instrument ,they wanted ,wait for it, £299!!! It may have been 250,i can't remember
It was very pink in colour ,and this is what made me hesitant,i thought it was a refin,
the original machine heads were gone too.

The next week it was up to 399 ,then it was gone.

I actully met the guys dad that bought it at the bank a few months later,
he had been offered £800 for it from Andys in the Uk ,but didn't sell ,i don't know if he still has it though.

'73 4001... $300

I placed this foolish ad in my local online classified. It sort of went like this....

Anyone have any old Rickenbacker basses they don't want? I'd be glad to take it off your hands for you. How about that one under the bed... It's just taking up space. What about that old bass in the corner of the garage? You don't play it any more. Why not sell it to me. I'll pay top dollar for any old Rickenbacker bass you have lying around.

What the hell.... It doesn't hurt to ask huh? I didn't think anyone would ever contact me but someone did within a week's time. I came home from work one day and checked my email. Some guy about 40 miles away said "I have an old Rick bass you might want". I emailed him back and he gave me his phone number so I called him. He said..."It's black and kinda beat up. Looks like it has the original case". I asked him what the serial number was and had to explain to him where to look for it and he told me it was ML6323. I tryed to keep my composure as best I could. He gave me directions to his house and I went there as soon as I could. When I arrived he brought the old case out and opened it up and there she was... There were two E strings on it and the low profile pup cover was on installed on top of the surround. Right then I knew this guy didn't know what he had. I picked it up and fooled with it a bit. I quickly noticed that the fret board was separated from the neck a bit and the nut was trashed. I pointed these items out to him. The case was in decent shape for being 34 years old. He wanted to show me all his other stuff too and then showed me around his house so I complied. About a half hour later when he was done giving me the grand tour he asked, "Well what do you think about the bass?" While I grabbed my chin and acted like it was going to take some work to get it back in working order I told him "Will you take $300 for it? It has seen better days ya know." He quickly replied SOLD!" I couldn't get the cash out fast enough! I paid him, took the bass and shook his hand and off I went! I was smiling all the way home!

It looked like this...

The V63 that's now mine I strong-armed a good friend to buy from a seller on Gbase in 2000 or so. It had one nick in the body (then! ) and it was $1100 plus shipping. He was going to be the bass player in a band we were trying to form with me on guitar, but it never quite took off.

Flash forward to late 2002, and I had joined my current band on bass. I had dragged my '76 4001 "faux-CS" carcass around the West Coast for the first part of the year, and the damage under the paint was just starting to rear its head. I borrowed my friend's V63 for some shows at Christmas time, then gave it back to him (none the worse for wear).

Next I spoke to him in February '03, he had suddenly decided to move to Rhode Island and needed money fast. He had decided he wasn't pursuing music as more than a hobby, and he knew how much I'd always coveted that bass, having talked him into getting it to begin with, so he offered it to me for exactly what he paid, $1100, minus the shipping, of course.

Not realising how much the market would go through the roof on these suckers, I had no idea how much of a deal I was getting. I just thought I was upgrading my gigging bass to a reliable one. I sometimes feel guilty and wish I had some bread to toss his way! (I do put him on our guest list every time he comes to shows! )

Jwilli snapped that '59 345 right out from under me! I was in touch with the guy and pretty close to the deal when JWilli came along and snatched 'er up. If I recall you were local, right J? That one stung for a while.
