Very comprehensive list of ways to spot a copy - I don't think I can add much to that. :D

This bass is a fairly accurate copy made in the Matsumoku factory, it would likely have been branded Univox (as a couple of you have already said) Aria, Aria Pro II, or possibly Greco. All of these were the same bass, just sold under different brands. The Matsumoku copies are the only ones I'm aware of which have the twin rods.

The pickguard on this one's aftermarket, or possibly even a genuine RIC component. I don't recall seeing a stock copy with a black guard, and none of the 70s Japanese knockoffs had the 1" gap. I don't think the knobs are original to this bass either - the copies tended to have push-fit knobs with plain silver caps & no script.
