That should be a (relatively) easy one to convert with a headstock rework.

C'mon now, those of us that are forward thinking know that RIC put that extra wood there for a reason- poor man's five string in 3+2 configuration, waste not...want not.....

. Looks better with cloverleafs, pics on that someday.

I'm "forward thinking" enough by swapping in the new electronics.

The 5th string is an option but I'll have to find a 5 string bridge that I like and get the headstock redone. That's really the only option AFAIC.
She's home, in the same condition she left in (thanks Marc) and reunited with her buddy BTW.......

I know, I just posted that to mess with Jeff. I would like to do it "right" also but I just can't see spending the money when the basses in question aren't really worth anything (compared to my 4001 collection). Of course I'll spend big bucks on them old 35 year basses, and pay even more for original condition. It's funny how some of see the value of certain ricks over others. Nice car/bass combo by the way- blackness rules

There's no right or wrong only what is "right" for you. I appreciate any mods that work for the player/owner. I'm willing to pay for the value a mod has in playability/aesthetics. I'd love an early '73 or earlier for sentimental reasons since the 1st Ric I owned was a fully optioned '73 but for me it would just be a luxury....I value what I can use the most. If I worry too much about the value then i sell it off and I use my deferred comp (401K-ish) for investment purposes.

Brian,
If you like the Wal so much, keep it. You may find a band tomorrow.

Congrats Brian. That Laredo belongs in your stable.
And I agree with folks about the Wal - a special bass. I know I wouldn't part with it. But then again, I've never willfully parted with any guitar or bass (except that ****** acoustic that turned into firewood!

)
I did finally mod a Rick, however...so maybe someday I'll sell a guitar or bass...
