In top condition and with the way the market is right now, that's a steal.

I'd say go for it as well.

My 74 is one of my top 3. The neck is fantastic! I'd love to find a '74 or '75 fretless.

As John said, they do have "the tone" and it is a joy to play.

PICTURES please, PICTURES when she lands. :D

By the way, the 74 BG that I just sold played so incredibly well.

Picked up the '75 today. Person I bought it from got it from the original owner. Played lightly. Always had flats on it too - currently has Pyramid flats Lovely bass! Too dark to shoot pictures tonight but will do so shortly and post

About that .00047 cap. I've never had to do that mod. Can it simply be clipped out, or does a new signal path around it have to be made? Any links anyone knows that explains how to do this?

Tim, the easiest and least invasive thing to do is just solder an insulated wire across the .0047uF cap (smaller of the three caps). It is easily reversed and acomplishes the task nicely. The RIC tone switch just acts as this type of shunting wire, only can be switched in and out. I did this switch/pot mod to my 4001.

Thanks John. I'll bring it to a friend that has some soldering skills then.

The difference is night and day. In a good way. I can see why so many 70s 4001 basses had routing and pup changes. All for a tiny capacitor that could be fixed with a wire.

As promised, here's some pics of the "new" '75. Nice bass! Thanks for the input on this one.

Great looker, Tim - really nice maple figuring on her. Looks a lot like my late 75 4001MG. Did you try the shortig out the cap yet?
