32OO33

If I'm playing a song with lots of barre chords, then I'll play it 355433

Learned 320033, but I also play it's ugly stepsister 3X0003 from time to time. Depends on the song

I use all the variations depending on sound desired. I started with the index finger version of the open G but had so much trouble getting quickly to open C that I switched to not using the index finger any more. I am so used to not using the index finger (get to C real easy) that I have trouble using 320033 because I have to go back to the index finger version which I'm not used to anymore.
Just make the time to play guitar!

+1 on all variations - it totally depends on the "color" wanted, and, if I'm playing a 12-string, if I can fit my kielbasas on the strings! I do like the D on the B string for that ringy "Tell Me What You See"-sort of sound. Open B sound more country to me somehow. Barre chord sounds more, well, barre.

Actually, if I'm playing along with a rhythm guitar, I usually go to x-10-9-7-8-7 as my first choice, with that same shape as a common choice for other chords in the vicinity (like anywhere from E to A)....

You and I John are the only two who responded that way.

Must be a bass player thing.

Interesting that 320033 got the most votes. Having that high D (on the B string) ring makes a very nice sweet and "jangly" tone. So it kind of makes sense that it would be the most popular on a Rickenbacker site.

I play a very similar 3x0033 to play GE Smith's version of Steve Earle's "I Ain't Ever Satisfied." Rings very nicely on a Telecaster.

PS: Just when I was starting to learn to play guitar there was a photo of James Taylor on the cover of Vanity Fair Magazine holding a G chord. I thought it was very cool that I recognized what that was.

Not that I play much 6 string now...I went back to bass when that open fingering with the d (3rd fret b string) added started getting popular (along with the C add 9 chord...hate them both...cheesy voicings).

In reality I play many different G chords when I play guitar...

I voted for 32OOO3, but I use 32OO33 just as much. There is more chime to 32OO33 (opening of "Take it Easy"), and more darkness to 32OOO3 (opening of "Pigs on the Wing"). I sometimes mute the B, but only for effect, and usually as 3XOO33.

Either of the last two choices, depending on the other chords for ease of change. Normally the third choice if I just do it without thinking.

I learned it 230003, but then I saw Johnny Ramone play it 230033 in Rock and Roll High School, and have played it that way ever since. It's my "go to" G chord, unless the song requires the bar shape or the first open way I learned it.

I use 320003 even though I was taught 320033. It seemed to me that G often went to C and why not play G with almost the same fingering? third finger, second finger, then pinky up at the top!

I put down 32OOO3, but actually, most of the time, I just use 32OO. I generally run out of strings after that...

But, when I do set down my bass and try to make sounds on a guitar that won't scare the cats, I do use 32OOO3.
I have NO idea what to do with those skinny stringed things... I'm just a bass player...

In order of preference:

320033
3rd fret barre like an E chord
X(10)9787 (I love this one when it fits)
10th fret barre like an A
320003 (for country)

I use 'em all but like that jangly first one for most pop and acoustic songs :) the barres for boogy-ing.
All I wanna do is rock!
