I
slept through a whole Slayer concert once.
I hate to say this, but my wife slept through MOST of the Delicate Sound of Thunder Pink Floyd concert....she was 8 month's pregnant with my son....
Man, that FREAKED ME OUT!
I discovered "limited view" tickets during that show.
LOL,
I know Sheena, don't feel bad, that is what we call tongue and cheek humor. It is difficult to explain with the language barrier....Here is a brief description from Wikipedia..It was sort of was to give a chuckle but that is how I was referring to them the other night.
"Tongue-in-cheek humour
Tongue-in-cheek humour in fiction often takes the form of gentle parodies. Such stories seem to abide by the conventions of an established serious genre, while in reality, they gently poke fun at some aspects of that genre. A tongue-in-cheek work still relies on these conventions and is not the same as a farce. One of the earliest novels written in this style is the novel Don Quixote by Miguel de Cervantes. Examples of films that are made in a tongue-in-cheek way are Scream, A Midsummer Night's Sex Comedy, Shaun of the Dead, Demolition Man, True Lies, or Hot Fuzz. Note that these films are still faithful to their genre (slasher, musical, zombie, action, spy, and police-thriller respectively) and are not out-and-out parodies such as Airplane! or Scary Movie. Tongue-in-cheek humor does not typically break the fourth wall.[citation needed]"
Hey, I'm a fat man, I know it...I dress accordingly.
WHY on earth 300LB women feel the need to squeeze into latex bicycle pants is beyond my limited comprehension.
Sean,
Sorry to hear that you have experienced that kind of pain as well. Hopefully, it doesn't get any worse as you get older. I once thought I was indestructible...I did things no sane person would do. Cruel what time & effect can do to a body.

tony-i feel ya on that-i hardly ever go to concerts anymore, although i go out of my way to see yes,and put up with whatever. for the most part, there tend to be fewer drunks/superrowdie types at a yes show, but there's always one or two-invariably sitting in your viewing/listening space.....there is a beale street 3 day fest in memphis, that is unbelievable,by which i mean intolerable, just a huge amount of drunken craziness-i have got to the point in my life where that overrides my music/concert appreciation.

You may not believe it, Tony, but i know what "tongue in cheek" means. I also know what "pulling one's leg" means. And i know some other things. And there's an old (well, relatively, i mean it's from more than a decade ago) British comedy TV show that i watch on a regular basis (on youtube and for free, heh-heh), without translation (that is — in English), and strange as it seems, i laugh a lot. I love British humour and i prefer it as is, in English, untouched by dirty hands of a "i-give-you-the-word-by-word-translation-and-if-you-don't-understand-that's-not-my-problem" translator.
I mean, i may not be a native speaker, and i definitely am not a genius, but i do understand jokes in English. Well, sometimes anyway.
Oh, and the above is tongue in cheek, just in case.

Yep..we also went to see the Moody Blues earlier this month..good seats @ $300/pair. Once in awhile someone got up to wiggle but then sat back down..the band was hot and got a standing ovation after each song..reminded me of when I sent to Catholic school up and down in church. The last two songs everyone was on their feet. My feeling is a sit down concert is just that and people should stay seated....I do miss the old day at the Shrine in LA where you could roam around, dance etc,,,feels more natural at a rock show. I guess thats the quandry..if the music is hot, it's hard not no move n groove...

Tony your talk about tounge-in-cheek and 300LB women squeezed into latex bicycle pants is disturbing me!
Bottom line (no pun intended) is what would the band prefer, people getting into it or people chilling out.
Come to think of it, have the Moody Blues ever had anyone moshing up the front?

Tony,
I feel for you. I never buy floor seats for the reasons that you unfortunately experienced.
The last stadium concert I went to (Shania Twain in Calgary a few years back) which btw (and yes ladies and gents that's country music but it's really more like rock) was excellent. I had box seats in the Corral.
Obviously I appreciate a wide variety of music. I enjoy metal, blues, jazz and classical as well.

ajish4 wrote:Ok, I'm almost done.....now YES is on the horizon. I am taking my whole family to see them, and I'm HOPING to be able to get seats up close. I don't know what the odds are of that, but IF I end up spending up tons of money for 4 tickets, and this happens to me again....you can contact me at the corrections facility in Miami.
As I've said in that other post, I really want to see Yes at Jones Beach this year. With floor seats going for MEGA bucks, if I go at all, it will be the cheap seats. NO WAY I'm supporting Clear Channel and TicketBastard for premium seats only to have to put up with nonsense like this. After all, I can just buy the DVD in a year and get my front row view!

That she is. Fortunately she is also a very talented singer/songwriter who happens to married to one of the best producers in rock. He really took her where she wanted to go..........musically speaking of course.

(look at that I got to use that twisted evil thing again.

On a related note - does this happen in the US a lot?:
When the Police reunion was announced, I received an email from the local ticket-touters offering pre-release tickets. The catch was, it was an auction. Sooo, the best seats were going in the $1000s, though the winning bids were never published. This is the first time I'd come across this phenomenon.
The upshot -
The Oz entertainment "aristocracy" (The Urbans, Kiwi Russell the Gladiator etc) monopolised the front seats.
On top of this, they were playing in a massive (and suitably horrible) stadium, and Sting had a beard that made him look like a tattered version of Spike Milligan.

As you can guess, it was all too much - I gave it a miss.

That's a drag, Tony. But every concert I've been to has been about the same. Even the tiered seating in the wayback of the Hollywood Bowl. And at that same venue, I almost turned around and punched the guy behind me who was purposely singing off-key everything Sting was singing. I guess he wasn't a fan.
Once, I has nosebleed tickets at the Forum behind a pillar.

Tony, I think if that had happened to me...I would think, okay, payback time.
I think back to the younger days when a rock concert was one of the only places you could ever feel free to stand up, whoop and holler, get high and hold up your lighter, generally be an out of control ***. Back when standing up was sort of a tribute to the band, a way of showing your solidarity with them.
Now? Now, I wish everyone would @#$%ing sit down and watch the damn show.
I might even suggest we're too old for rock concerts...but the players are still older than we are.
