Take a look at this catalog page from '85. It shows a 4003S with chrome hardwarare but black bushings. http://www.rickenbacker.com/catalog_pos ... bass-2.jpg In the past I has a later '70s skunk-stripe 4001 with the black bushings.

Count me in - black plastic bushings on that '79.

My '79 4001 JG FL has them too.
My late '75/early '76 4001 has them also.
