I like Purple's new record, but Bananas is better, save the single. But don't expect the old Purple. It's VERY much a combo of Morse & Gillan. They put on a wonderful show, and they are happy; unlike the Blackmore era. But there is an argument to be made that the tension (before it destroyed the band) played a key role in their sound.
Long live Deep Purple!

Most DP stuff that I hear bores me. Blackmore shines with Rainbow.

T'was told my Marshall 2001 head & a couple of cabs were used by DP. Dunno. Might be some good karma, if true. Or not.

charlyg wrote:Love the band, but I doubt they qualify. They were in the first batch of "Heavy Metal" bands. I seem to be one of the few around who remember that we coined the term heavy metal WAY before the 2nd wave boys realize.
Deep Purple Mark II was one of several groups that claimed to have started heavy metal.

Others may have claimed that but Purple despises the term Heavy metal.

I never considered Deep Purple a heavy metal band, but they are good hard rock. Machine Head and Perfect Strangers could be sister albums, IMO.

1972 to 1984. Lot's of water under, over and through the bridge between these albums. Have you heard In Rock? In some ways much better than Machine Head and Perfect Strangers.

I've got white label promo albums of In Rock, Fireball, Machine Head, Who Do We Think We Are?, and Made In Japan. Even though there's 12 years in between MH and PS, it's still the same lineup. Never cared much for Purple outside the Gillian/Balckmore lineup. MH is one of THE classic rock albums of all time. Not a weak song on there, and they all got played on the readio.
