Are they called that because of the quick service or because of their effect?

All right, here's my list:

1: TRC shape/color/printing is different
2: Tuners - one has single line, one has double line
3: Body shape - horns are wider on '95
4: String spacing is wider on '05, within each pair and across entire fb.
5: Toaster - scatter vs. pre
6: Different gold color on pg
7: Different spacing between fb/pg
8: One has 9th fret dotted; one has 10th.
9: Thickness of fretboard is different.

Fun ones:
10: One is MG, one is FG.
11: One is pointing west, one east!

Oh, that's what you wanted! I could have posted all that!

Interesting variations, some small and some really different; like the horn sizes, string spacing, thickness of the fb, and the dot move.

I thought this might be a fun bump with the recent shipments out.

A couple of months ago the lead guitarist in my band started to bring a mandolin and banjo along to rehearsals and insisted on playing them instead of his 330/12.

He's no longer in the band.

They are a specialty item, but they offer more than novelty. If it's the kind of thing you're looking for you won't find a better one anywhere at the price. They sound great, offer real 8-string setup (unlike the Fenders) and are knockout gorgeous. It's just that mandolin isn't that popular with everybody, along with banjo, accordion, and other more exotic instruments. If I could justify having one by actually loving and playing that kind of music I'd love to own one.

Well, they ain't just bluegrass. We are using a Rick mandolin in our latest release (which has sold three hundred thousand copies and has already paid for Juliana's college education, I might add...). So there.

Add to the backlog? Not a whole lot, considering they're run every two years or so. And, they do fill orders, so it's all business.

Oh, you guys are guitar snobs! Now I get it!

On another note, I'm awful glad RIC has stopped making banjos... Imagine an alt. pop band with a banjo, a bagpipe, and a tuba on bottom.

For shame. Bela Fleck proudly displayed his RIC Bantar last time I saw him here in Springfield, playing with Vic Wooten, Jeff Coffin (sp?), Future Man, and a band of Tuvan singers. I asked Bela about the Bantar and he said it was really good for "aggressive banjo". If you've heard him before you know he takes the banjo to new territories anyways.

I guess I'm partial too because I'm more proficient on the banjo than I am on the mando. I actually wish RIC dedicated a little more time to both, even though I'm not in the market. They are a unique alternative to the normal fare you see placed in the corner of most music stores.

I suspect there has to be some untold story that explains why they still make these. It's clearly in the fetish category. I'm sure glad they do because I am really starting to get the hang of it thanks to having owned mine. I play the new AFG an average of 15 minutes each day. Which lately is more than I play anything but the Rhodes.

A well-known forumite once told me how to tune a banjo: You toss it into the trash, and when you pull it out it's in tune.

Take any "lawyer" joke and substitute "banjo player". Late night fun.
