This song has always brought a touch of sadness into my life when I hear it. More especially since the tragic events of December 8,1980.

In the late 1970s, this song cut straight to the root of my emotional turmoil and laid it bare. Even though I'm a much happier and more settled person now, it still cuts me to the quick every time I hear it:

At the end of the 80s, I was in the Army, and sent to Germany for duty. I had to leave my pregnant wife behind(she arrived later, before our daughter was born)and was in a bar at a transistion station waiting for my specific post assignment. Here I was, lonely, anxoius, and a littled scared(this was at the height of the "cold war" before the wall came down)and quite frankly, a little lost.
They had a jukebox in this place, and all of the sudden Sam Cookes "What a wonderful world this would be" song came on, and it just took all of that away, and made me feel really good inside. To this day, I can't listen to that song without thinking about that cold night in Germany.
There are many other stories like this, as music has been the one consistantly true love of my entire life.

This song makes me remember how I was feeling in High School, a place where your emotions can fuel, and you can really feel on edge. The ending especially expresses how I was feeling:

One more (sorry, this one's in French, and not rock'n'roll).
Makes me feel as if i were still a child, aged ten or so.
(a translation of sorts)
When the sky gets less gray
He (it?)'ll give me a hand,
One day, like a friend,
He'll return to us,
But i already want
To sing to you —
Oh, the Sun...
Come, come out of the night finally,
And the winter will be gone.
Come, you who make the rain
[Become] a huge bonfire of joy.
We're waiting for you only,
Wake up!

Growing up in Northern Jersey, in the shadows of NYC, these 2 groups were our 'Beatles' when I was a boy. And they were heard just as much on the airwaves in the mid-sixties.....

Oh, and this one, of course.
That's a song that — well, back in the day it was a saviour for me. Something that could always "bring me up in the times i'm down", as Brother Tom sang. Since late eighties — and up to now, i think.

As always, I'm late.
SO many come to mind. Basically one or more for each mood. Some happy, some sad, some reminiscent.
Some the words hit home, some just the instruments alone can do it to me.
I too have a soft spot for "The Living Years" but in a different way. My father passed while my Mom was five months pregnant with me, so I never met nor have I had a father. My mother didn't remarry until I was 18 and I married one year after she did!
It's funny how sometime a song can bring you into or out of a MOOD. THIS song, I received when I was about 5 years old. I don't know what it is about it...it's not emotional, or touching, but it does remind me of my early childhood. I still have my original 45RPM, I have it on my Ipod now too. It brings a smile to my face and a lift to the soul. The words are difficult to figure out, but with time, and the help of GOOGLE I was able to figure it all out!
I guess I realized the REAL power of song with the Moody Blues "Nights in White Satin". I heard the bass introduction, the voices, the Mellotron, and I was lost. TO THIS DAY, the Moody Blues is where I go when I'm feeling a bit DEEP if you will. Little did I know, that they would be a huge part of my courtship if you will, when I met Janey in 1977. This song helped me work up the courage to propose.
The list goes on and on...but one of my top three is "The Little Drummer Boy" by the Harry Simeone Coral. This song is a re-occurring factor in my life. Funny thing, back when I was in the 4th Grade, my teacher was Mrs. Simeone! Yes, the wife of Harry Simeone of the Harry Simeone Corale!
One day, around Christmas I asked her if she would be kind enough to get her husband to autograph my LP for me. She was an UGLY old woman who looked like she put her make up on with a paint roller! I'll never forget it, she snapped at me and said "my FAMOUS husband divorced me and too off with a girl in the orchestra".
But, in a more personal note, THIS song personifies why I play in church on Sundays...I'm not rich, and basically have nothing else to give but my bass playing. OK, it's not a DRUM, but it fits!
