It's my 1st JG Rick...I LOVE IT!
I know the feeling. I really have to have the extra real estate for playing, but the JGs are sooooo darn sexy as they are. I never really wanted a JG until I got one a few years back. There's just something inexplicably perfect about them. Probably rehashing old stuff here, but those inlays really add another degree of wonderfulness to the bass.

Congrats Mike! That's a beauty.

Can you please comment of the neck size of the 2008 vs. your 75th Anny 4003? I am hoping the new ones are slimmer so I can start shopping for one again. My 75th Anny was really thick compared to my '87 4003 which I love.

Thanks

Greg, that was the question I was going to ask, what is the neck profile like on the 2008 full-width inlay basses? If the answer is THIN, like an 87...then it just might be too much for me to resist.

I was at POTR and checked out the profile on several brand new 4003's. They just keep getting closer to the c64 profile - i.e. "flatter" - especially when the neck begins to taper around the 7th fret.

I snapped a cell phone camera photo one of 'em - guess the finish (hint - it isn't Jetglo!).

Nice bass!
Now, just take off those stickers on the pickguard.
How does she sound?
Those inlays look great.

Don't get your hopes up too high. I have two '87 4003's and an '88 and those necks are the perfect size.

I also have a C64S, and while I really like the bass its neck is much larger and less comfortable for me to play than my late 80's Ricks. So what I'm sayin' is...if the new 4003 necks are approaching the size of a C64 neck, they still aren't gonna compare with your '87 4003 neck, Greg.

And btw, I don't mean to dis the new Rick necks. Some people like them bigger. Bigger necks are obviously going to have an easier time handling string tension. To each his own.

Me neither! They're beautiful instruments and these new features are fantastic. I just know how much I love the '87 and I wouldn't play another one that didn't have that feel.

I'd like to see smaller bass necks, and bigger guitar necks too... But for now, I'll take what I can get!
