In short, I doubt that "foxx, pryor, early eddie murphy or cheech and chong" would agree with your 'holding a candle' statement...well, maybe Cheech, but I blame his years on Miami Vice for his mental deterioration...

If Carlin's not funny then I'm a good candidate for the Priesthood...

I heard the news late last night. Although he could be really, really offensive at times, he was very funny most of the time. He will be missed.

Carlin was certainly one of a kind, and his take on life and the world will be missed. I think why some may not have found him funny, or maybe too over the top was because often he addressed sensitive issues which might make one squirm. Maybe by way of their own guilt or fear. Carlin was a satirist, an artist, not one liners.

Hugging and smoking can also help with killing pain...and while my own experience may not be comprehensive, they have never caused me to vomit...even at that wild surprise party for Carl Sagan over at Leo Buscaglia's place...

I heard the news this morning. In great shock I was. I first became aware of George Carlin when I was two years old. No, I wasn't listening to his comedy routine at that age, but he narrated my favorite children's show Thomas the Tank Engine and Friends (which is a British kids show. All you UK forumites, you might be aware of it). I loved his voice and thought he was amazing, but I became even more surprised that Ringo Starr told the show, too. That's another story.

The thing about George on the show was that he gave a great performance to every story he told. Each character had his/her own voice and he always seemed happy to do his job. George was the voice that got me into liking that show, and he will always be remembered as Mr. Conductor in my heart, and not a comedian.

For those who don't believe me that George would narrate a kids show, take a look at this:

Your terse retelling of the incident is a bit vague...which came first, the hugging or the vomiting?

(I can only assume that Carlin would be fine with the vibe of this thread...we Irish like a bit of fun at the Wake, after all...)

Speaking about Wakes. I went to one once and the deceased had three pints lined up for him before he could get in the door. Now that's what I call consideration. Some were glad to see him come and others were glad to see him go............
