It was a way that I have used to get things back to normal for a very highly-stressed neck with no more adjustment possible. Sooner or later, something will have to be done to get this neck back within specs if the bass is to have any playing life left in it. I saw the hiatus in storage as a way to get a head start on the necessary work, without any down side.

Despite my tendency to wordiness--I used to write instruction manuals and clarity is always paramount in my mind--I probably was not clear enough to indicate that in no way are my directions to be taken as a "must do" or any sort of panacea.
Actually Paul, I missed the part about his truss rods being tight. In my experience most times that has been caused by the rod itself twisting and ruining the threads so that the bolt won't turn any farther than the twist, in light of that I stand (or sit) corrected. The fact that they are tight and there is still high relief also suggests to me that the bolt simply won't turn due to it's being twisted. I pulled the rods out of a couple of my 4001's that were like this and had the threaded ends cut a little and re-threaded, worked like a charm, this was also one of JH's ideas way back and I'm sure my original thread on the subject is still here sometime in 2003.
