I put the big honkin' orange Sprague capacitors on my '75 4001 when I had to rewire it (abominated wiring when I got it) and it had a lot of positive tone comments at RIO!!! when it was played. I wonder.....

Cool, John. I wish I would have played that one and heard it through an amp at RIO. Did you use a new RIC wiring harness, an old one from the 80's, or did you make your own?

Jeff, you should have plugged that one in too. I used CTS parts and Sprague caps from GuitarPartsResource and built it up by hand - I used 250k for the volume pots and 500k for the tone pots - the bridge pup has a RIC Boutique 500k pot/switch in the tone circuit for the vintage tone option. I actually like it better with the cap out.

Cool! What's CTS? I'd like it better with the cap out also!

CTS is a well-made brand that RIC uses.

I do not see any sign of a shedua stripe, nor is there any shedua showing in the chipped area of the headstock where it would be:

don't listen to him, they never made 4001s in this colour and trim, only 4003s in the 80's and 90's.
