None of the above apply to me any more. As an ex-professional guitar player, I no longer gig, I don't like to jam particularly (unless I happen to be in Oz of course with my friends who love to jam) and I don't collect..............I just play and record whenever the mood strikes me these day.

For me, it's definitely hobbyist and collector. I've sat in with bands before, subbing for someone else, usually on bass. More than anything, I'm just happy to be playing and have a great selection of gear to choose from when I'm playing.

That's a great way to put it.
Wish I had thought of that.

Yup. The only business I know where you can make tens of dollars.

As usual, I have no idea what I'd be considered......(don't say it Jeff, LOL).....
Most assuredly not a PRO, I've NEVER jammed in my life (I only play at church) and I don't consider myself a collector (more like obsessive compulsive)

My humble collection exists because there is something special that I wanted or liked about them, ie my CS or a specail color. All my basses get played, some lots more than others, but there is one or two that will be sold or traded down the road form something else I'd like to get my hands on.

all above in some more or less permanently shifting proportions depending mainly on total of offspring residing around me (currently 3).

I play for fun, and hopefully a few beers. If they hand me money at the end of the night, I fall into a state of shock, stand there imobile, some one takes the money, I wake up, then have another beer.

Jingle Jangle took the words right out of my mouth.
No one in their right mind would ever pay me for a gig and I've never considered myself to be a collector. Therefore, I'd like to think that I fall into the jamming hobbyist category, although those that have heard me play may disagree.

Mostly a jamming hobbyist for now, although my new band's planning on playing out in a few months once we get enough songs down. Even then, I don't think I'd apply the term "professional" until the inevitable barrage of bottles aimed at the stage subsides to a manageable level
As far as collecting, I only have three Ricks but I suppose I'm still relatively young and the RAS is strong in this one, so who knows how far it will go. The demon RAS makes you a Collector-But-Not-By-Choice

I gig about twice a month and jam @ home when time permits.
Ricks are the most beautiful basses ever made!

Semi-pre, semi-collector! I play about 100 gigs a year on guitar and bass (all Ricks for both!). I've played more in the last few years than I ever did in my youth. Very lucky in that I formed two concept bands with some very talented musicians that have achieved considerable popularity so I gig one-three times a week. Still have my day job though!

Have been a fixture in the local blues scene for the last thirty years but am quite fussy now about gigs to take . I don't like to travel much any more , I like to wake up in my own bed . If I don't see some joy in the gig I don't take it . Mostly playing in the bars , the odd session , the odd festival . Blue collar musician work .
Thankfully we have a healthy blues scene and the phone still rings . I play at least once every week . Some gigs on upright , some with a Pbass , some with my 4001 .
I have about ten basses but only one Ric .

Gigs, but never been paid, never had more than 5 people in the audience, so gigging hobbyist?

Struggling hobbyist. I do get to jam a couple of times a year but hope to increase that sometime in the future as I will have more time now.
