The original 6119s came with HTs. I think one can order them either way these days. I have an original `65 and it sounds great with the HTs!

When it comes to a Gretsch with single coils, there's nothing like the DynaSonic pickups. Tone for days and they have much more output than the Hi-Lo Trons. Either way, you can't really go wrong though, as the Hi-Lo's do have a great tone. Both are great pickups.

I'm not knocking HT's. I have my Tennessee Rose with them, so I'm a fan.

soundmasterg wrote:To the original poster, if you like the single coil sound out of your Fenders and Rics, you may try a Gretsch with the Hi-Lo Tron pickups on it. I think the Tenny Rose comes with those, or you can get some TV Jones ones and put them on. Those are weak for single coils and give a very nice twangy country sound. Listen to most of Beatles For Sale for examples.

I'm the original poster. There were no Gretsch models with Hi-Lo Trons in them. I know I'd like them, but I'm just used to the Fender and Ric sounds. If I see a Tenny in person with HT, I should try it.

I love Dynasonics as well. My main live guitar is a `57 RI Gretsch Silver Jet equipped with Dynasonics.

Gretsch sells guitars with three different types of single-coils, the Hi-Lo Trons, the De Armond 2Ks, and the Dynasonics.

I hung out there for a few hours back in '04, cool shop and I don't think a single other customer came in while I was there.

If you think the new Dynas sound good ,you should try a vintage one
Nothing wrong with the new ones ,i have have a few myself, but the vintage Dynas sound sublime.
I've never heard the SD version though, they're suppose to be really close.
