Rob, you can't do a proper setup with used strings.

I have heard pyramid strings are good. That's what I was told were on the the 330/12 I just bought.

Ah, the problem with hearsay...Pyramid (also known as "tetrahedron") strings are a bit controversial these days where Ricks are concerned.

Many of those who say they're "good" are merely parroting stuff they've heard or read somewhere. A number of us have tried newer Pyramids on our 6s and 12s. They are just not like the "old" Pyramids; they have higher tension than both the older Pyramids and many other brands out there, including the Rickenbacker-branded items of the same gauge. You can feel the difference--Pyramids feel like cheese cutter wire to many people.

I have a '67 425, strung with an NOS set of vintage Pyramids, and the feel and sound are both different from the contemporary ones. The sound is juicier and less harsh, and the feel is silkier and quite comfortable.

I should add that the high tension of current Pyramids is a good way to prepare you to learn to re-adjust your truss rods, and using them will probably void the warranty on a new Rick.

If you want to equate 'good' with 'expensive', then I suppose they're good...

Can't say I have ever had a problem with RIC brand strings. They intonate well, sound good and last forever.

I have just had the RIC strings put on mine. I have to say that they sound amazing compared to the ones I had on before, which were a bit weird and it is a long story so I won't bore you.

I think, go for the RIC strings.

yep, agreed, Ric strings every time for me now. Try the rest then come back to the best

I just bought a set of the Curt's and will report. I have the flat Pyramids on now and they are okay but stiff.

I like the D'addario round wounds for 12-strings, but I may convert to Ric compressed round wound soon.

TI's! Chris Clayton makes up the 12-string sets. For flats, they're the best.
