John, any chance of getting some Rics to professional in Ferndale? Great pop, no mom store. Ric could be the one company of the big four that is not frustrating to deal with for the little guys.

In any event, it's the nature of the business and economy, and I still maintain that anyone who wants a Rick of his/her dreams, will find a way to get that dream guitar or bass. .
Yup. Anybody who can complain about the price of collectible/vintage Rics hasn't looked very far into their USA made competition. Fender and Gibson do have some affordable vintage bargains, but if you're going for the obvious stuff (Strat, Tele, Les Paul, 335 etc..) have fun, and a fat wallet.

It's easy to complain about prices when you picked Rics up for pennies on the dollar back when they were less desireable than now (late 80's early 90s come to mind), but just like everything else...they are affordable if you wait/search/work for it. I'm 24, a full time college student, and you'd laugh if you knew my yearly income, but I've still been able to buy a few nice Rics every year, through buying/selling etc, including a few vintage pieces.

They aren't impossible to get, but if you always compare things to twenty years ago, they will certainly seem impossible now. (not pointing you out Sean, just sayin..)

Cheers,

Not just talking about Rics. All of the Big 4 have gotten way out of hand. Ric and Gretsch probably are the best deals out there as far as that goes. Gibson the worst. Funny thing is that I think my 91 330/12 is one of the best playing guitars I've ever played. Not worth what a 66 is, but plays every bit as well. But you are right it's a market thing, and sooner or later another brand will become desirable. But I'll never forget the first time my friend Jeff played my Ric, a guitar he'll never get working his current job in a ****** economy. I knew the kid was good, but he really shines on a quality instrument. Guess it'll be an Ibanez Jet King for him. Wish it was a Ric. Your point is valid about comparing things to twenty years ago. But I still think things have gotten over the top. I don't think anyone can argue that collecting has contributed. That said I would love to have a few more Rics, so I shouldn't throw stones. There are many good deals and Rics out there. Just got one! But also, from what I gather from looking at the bay, some ridiculously overpriced instruments, sold by the apparently delusional.

Hey, even if you are, that's okay, I can take it lol. I think my original thread before I went of on my socialist manifesto was that there are a few people out there on the bay who seem like used car salesman. as if a Ric couldn't just sell itself. It's like, I wasn't going to buy it because it was a great guitar alone. but I think these people have watched a bit to much antiques road show...
