Yep. That's the one. By the way, I've caught your video a few times in the past! Good stuff going on there. For acoustic 12's, I just don't think you can beat a Guild.

Here' a picture from a couple ago. This is my '74 Guild D-25, which I've had since new, and the '80 D 212. Both are now equipped with LR Baggs M1's. I also have a '76 F212 Sunburst, which I bought new as well. The F212 really rings out. But the D212 has beautiful tones. Also the D212 weights quite a bit more than the F212.

Yes, you have the TP correct finish on your Guild, although what happened to the pickguard on the one? Enjoyed the video, thanks.

Yeah, the pick guard on the D25 had lost it's adhesive around the edges and was curling. I never could find a genuine black Guild pick guard replacement. The original is back on it now. I used double-sided pick guard tape from Stew-Macs. Works perfectly. It's been on now for a long while and no hint of peeling up.

I think musicians have come to expect a fashion show of killer guitars at a TP concert. If they can pull it off without a hitch, good for them. They keep filling up those big arenas, so regular people must not be annoyed with the changes.

I was in a cover band a couple of years ago where the other guitarist had 2 seven strings and a 6 that were all tuned differently, and would spend time tuning them different ways on stage. What a bore, and the sound was ****. He told me I was stuck in the 70s

Did TP lose any Rick's in the fire?

None of his guitars were lost, to my knowledge, as they were all in his home studio (nowhere near the house) when it happened.

There was an earlier post about Petty and Campbell having too many guitars on stage and for some, it was distracting. The one thing (other than Petty's hat) that I remember from seeing the Heartbreakers on stage, was the rush of excitement I got each time I was presented with a new "object of my affections". I must have said, "ah, sweet" about a hundred times as I waited to see which axe was next. That, for me, was as much a part of the show as anything. Campbell did this multi-guitar solo that was just incredible to watch and listen to. And really, is it possible to have too many guitars? I think not!!!

If the guitarist or roadie's quick about it, or switching guitars is an entertaining part of the show, as with Rick Nielesen, then switching guitars is all a big plus in my book!

The last time I saw Yes, too long ago really, in '97, Steve played 13 different guitars that were constantly being switched out, he kept going back and forth to the various instruments; I thought that was great of him to bring them all and use them throughout the 2 1/2 hour show.

Chris also switched between a few basses.

I agree that one of the greatest treats at a TP&H show is the guitars armada....
Their show is the most Rics I've seen in one performance -- outside of a Confluence or Mini Con environment.

I've seen them in concert a couple of times and, the way they handle the switches, it never seems to stall the show. Plus, I'm never going to get to see some of those any other way.

I would say the Byrds also. Of course Petty loved the Beatles but Roger McGuinn was his idol. On July 26 I interviewed Tom in NY for a folk music documentary that I've been working on. When asked about Roger McGuinn's influence Tom replied, "There would be no Tom Petty without Roger McGuinn." That's a pretty strong statement, but they are both class acts. I wasn't staying in town long enough to see the Madison Square Garden show but his manager hooked us up with tickets and passes to the upcoming shows at the Comcast Center (Great Woods) in Mansfield, MA. Man, I am psyched!



Speaking of Roger McGuinn and Tom Petty, since Roger is the focus of this documentary and I had the opportunity to hang out with both of them I couldn't resist starting a "Legends Of The Rickenbacker" vintage guitar case.
