Sheesh!
All right, you guys, we were talking about food.
But we've derailed this thread badly when we're meant to be discussing alternate song versions

Where were we anyway?

I'll try to right the ship: Thanks for the input everyone. I'm facing down a limited amount of digital real estate and I'm just trying to figure out what should perhaps be jettisoned. It's difficult to manage a media collection once it gets to a certain point (read: excessive) because you suddenly have to compromise between being a completist and trying to have the widest variety possible.

Formatting is an issue for some folks. Some people think standard mp3 sounds lossy so they insist on high bitrate content, if not lossless. The fussier your ears are, the fewer songs you can fit in there.
Matthew, how many gigs do you have to pay with? I lost hope of ever being a completist when my library outgrew all my iPods long ago. And how much music can you go through? Seems like I'd be hard pressed to hear every song in my shuffle in one day, and that's only one gig. I load it up often with the stuff that's in heavy rotation in my brain, and that takes only a few seconds for 200 songs or so. Other than that, If I want to be complete, I'm waiting for the 360 gig iPod to come out.
