Maybe he will have them at MARF III all lined up.

I wish I could bring them out to MARF!
Well...........here we go then..........to my eye.........the most elegant solution was the 1954 recess with the carved bracing...........the earlist in our timeline.............

It's conjecture now..........but maybe someone said........"these things are taking forever to carve"......."how can we speed things up?"...............hence we have Captain Swisscheese............2nd in the timeline...............

Interesting that the crudest one (forstner bit) was not the first in the timeline!

Makes sense to me. First time out you want to do something really grand, then you ask "isn't there a faster way to do this, I lost my shirt on that first one". So the workmanlike response too rough for some, then you backtrack, rethink it and simplify the rout for economy. I could imagine something like that going on...

These are the only 'combos' that Graham is really into...

Gretsch still goes the Forstner "rout(e)" for its Duo-Jets and Pro Jets. They must remove all of a couple of ounces (in the case of the Gretsches).
When I built Aitch's deVille from a new Pro Jet, I removed the back and took all of the wood out to within 1/2" of the edges. Then I slimmed it by 1/2" and put a new back on. The guitar lost a couple of real pounds. I was ankle-deep in shavings.
The Forstner way with the 600/800 still left about 30-40% of the wood in place. I'll bet the other two are lighter, with the earliest one the lightest of all.
