That could be cool... just imagine.

A 360/12 , with a trapeze tailpiece, toasters, larger fretwire, no fingerboard finish

a 330, Trapeze tailpiece, higains, larger fretwire, no fingerboard finish.

I'm sure you could throw in a wider neck in there somewhere! lol

OK time to put my head in the block.Im totally not into signature model guitars IMHO i think they are overrated and overpriced. If i wanted a guitar like Pete Townsend i would buy one like his but NOT with a pick guard saying his name on it.I find it all a bit teenage and pop idiotic im sure this happens with age but ive come to respect instruments for what they are and not what they mean or what they say on the pick guard.Furthermore if or when there is a new signature model of someone i hope to heaven that RIC dont put their name on the pick guard as Personally i think it cheapens the look and the style of the guitar.Let the instrument speak for itself in its style and quality not on a signature on a piece of plastic.

As I said in the (now gone) thread, a LE model for a lesser-known Rickenbacker user would provide both a wealth of new publicity for the artist/band, as well as a means of satisfying Rickenbacker customers (and potential customers) who have been waiting for a certain reissue, or are just interested in a unique model.

As for who, I'm not sure exactly. I have recently seen the guitar players from Kasabian, Against Me!, The Decembersists, You Am I (Wouldn't mind a 360F RI :)), Radiohead, Editors, Death Cab For Cutie, and Interpol playing Rickenbackers. All candidates IMO.
Add to that the Kaiser Chiefs.
Add Rare Blend to that list!  8) :!: :D :P

Yea, but what would it be? 360JG with a "trucker mama" sticker and heavy strings? Not different enough from a stock guitar IMO.
Same reason it wouldn't make sense to give Paul Weller his own sig. Rickenbacker- it'd be a standard 330 with "I am Nobody"scratched into the face!! :P

(Though Fender would still sink to producing that! Anybody see the Elvis Costello "stipped and stained" Jazzmasters...yuck..)

I dunno, Scotty, I saw Jeff Lynne playing a signature McGuinn in a video. One could like them for the special features and replace that upper guard if it bugged one.
If they ever get past their backlog, RIC could put my own model into limited edition...

Come on Kira lets face it what is the REAL difference for instance between a 660 standard and a 660 TP? Tell me honestly what is the REAL difference? Ask yourself what is it?

its like buying a car you get the 2.0l model but for another 1K you get the same model with body colored bumpers and a sticker on it saying Animal ! i`m not saying that people wont buy it, cause people will, but does it change what it actually does??? Me thinks not...

I won't argue that point with you, but it does seem the later signature models do attract a kind of contemporary mojo to an otherwise "historic" lineup, if it's marketing image we're talking about.

Keep in mind that a Rickenbacker LE can be whatever the artist wants. Lemmy certainly didn't recreate his stock model for his LE...

I've been lobbying for a Peter Buck model for years on this board. Seems like he doesn't want one. The "stock" issue is bogus. Of course his is unique and different than the current 360 offered. I'll take 2, please. One 6 and one 12.

Does it really matter?

Whatever way your favourite performer/player has customised his/her favourite guitar can usually be fairly easily replicated. Most of the time, with just one or two exceptions, it's just usually cosmetic things anyway.
If they did bother to give your fave rave a signature model, why wait for 3 years and pay well over the odds for it?
If you want an orange dayglo TRC and brass door knobs on your Ric, just do it! I'll come and scribble on the pick guard with a black permanent marker for you, free of charge!

ok i'll be back in europe next year you can come visit and feel the difference. i have 91 tp, 2001 660/12and now 2004 660/12? there IS difference between pre 1995 tom petty and modern 660/12. the neck profile is different, the frets are bit taller on petty. it looks the same but it is not the same. i can say it over and over but it seems that my word is not good enough.

and i do not care for signature on pickguard at all. as a matter of fact i took it off my mcguinn right away. i got the guitar for the features not for silly pickguard.
