I think there's nothing wrong with loving, respecting, etc one brand of instruments more than all the others put together and defending it, Joey, as well as there's nothing wrong with loving your soulmate/children/country/friends/etc more than all the other people/countries in the world. But to me, there is a difference between "I love my husband/child(ren)/country more than other men/children/countries in the world, full stop" and "I love my husband/child(ren)/country more than other men/children/countries in the world, so i write other men/children/countries' names with asterisks".

We have to remember that not everyone can interpret our little "in-house" jokes in the manner that they're meant. I try to speak clearly or use the broadest jokes possible, but I forget that too.

Now that's funny, but using four-asterisk words isn't necessary.

I love my Ricks the best but I do have instruments that I love to play also by Rick Turner, Yamaha, Zon, Fender, Gretsch, Höfner and Larrivée.

Gibson. Mel Gibson. That's the guy.
Huh, first thing that came to my mind was a pinup girl, or maybe a hand cranked transmitter. Dang, I must be gettin' old...

Gasp~! Do you speak to your mother with that mouth?
But yeah, people. I understand if it were a swearing etc, but a brand name? Grow up, please. If people can't have an intelligent discussion, even argument about a topic, then they shouldn't be on here, and using asterisks won't help one bit. simple as that.
Cheers,

So. what are we claiming here? There are OTHER companies making guitars as well as Rickenbacker?
Next you'll all be claiming that Vox aren't the only tube amp makers, you guys crack me up.

I used to do this all the time, mostly for tongue-in-cheek humor. I stopped maybe 3 years or so ago?
Yesterday I did it again, in the Hipshot thread in the Bass Forum. Luckily, though, I made it to the confessional before Father Guido donned his beretta to attend the Pancake Breakfast being put on by the Altar and Rosary Society.
So, I'm clean.
But the three dozen pancakes I had to buy and eat--dry--for my penance, are kinda heavy...

Yes, there are other companies that make guitars.
Rickenbacker is the only company that makes Bass Guitars however...

The *** thing, while mostly based on humour, and not meaning to be negative, can still be perceived as being derogatory. If you appear that you can't be bothered to even mention another brand then expect some flak.
The main thrust of what has been discussed here recently, is the lack of ability to expand on anything that is perceived as even mildly critical of RIC, even when delivered in a very professional manner. Objectivity is essential in any media forum in order for sustained growth.
I directed an real Ric enthusiast here a few weeks ago. He thought the information here was impressive, (and as I have stated before, there is nothing remotely close imo,) but came across as being wary of the slant here, even knowing the Forum objective.

Sorry, Andrew, I don't agree after just reading 3 or 4 pages of frank critique on the shortcomings of the 4003 bridge assembly and the trade dress issues faced by Hipshot, etc. good arguments both sides until someone went on an irrational and offensive rant. These kinds of comparisons and commentary go on every day here but maybe some don't read them until someone gets edited or warned for being disrespectful. Then some people think you can't discuss the issue 'cause someone got edited.
It's not what people think and say that gets edited, or just rejected in other folks minds, but the lack of thought or the meanness inherent in the choice of words.
