It's probably worth bearing in mind that all the 70s Japanese copies pre-date the current cover design, therefore the pup covers will be copies of the low-profile unit. If they're in any way accurate (and a lot of the 70s JapCrap components were) it would probably be pretty hard to tell them apart.

This occurs to be because I acquired some vintage components - including a low-profile cover - which turned out to be a mixture of genuine & copy. I don't know which my cover is.

Thanks Eden. It does look good, the chrome against the black; I was not sure until I tried it. The shoes are magnetic. mounted on an aluminum plate I made, with a higain coil form rewound by Sergio to 8k and with 5/16" steel slugs for poles. The neck is a '73 higain, and these changes have allowed me to finally bond with this bass. With the original hot higains, I just couldn't warm to it. I have the .0047uF cap in the treble pup line, and it is still an authoritative pickup. I usually don't prefer the .0047uF in there, but here it works and is almost necessary as the pup has more than enough lows in it with it inline.

I just measured my Original '72 Low Profile Bridge Pickup Cover at 11/16".

My '74 (extra) is the same as the current ones!

This is what it looks like on my '72 Fireglo 4001.

Where are you measuring the height from? I took my measurements with the cover removed from the assembly.

I had the Bridge Cover sitting by itself on my desk and measured from the desk surface to the top of it, at the center.
Outside to outside.

Measuring with it installed, from the Bridge surround next to the height adjustment screw to the outside top of the Bridge cover is 1/2".

Measring the inside gap, where the strings pass through, I get 7/16".

With the set of strings I use, Roto-Sound Billy Sheehans, between the top of each string to the bottom of the Bridge cover I get; E - 5/32" gap, A - 4/32" gap, D - 5/32" gap and G - 7/32" gap.

I don't know if all this helps or not!

Interesting that there is a slight difference in height between our two LP covers. I measured near one end of the cover close to a tang, perhaps yours is slightly warped in the middle? Or, they just vary a bit from sample to sample.

When measuring mine as you measured yours Jeffrey I get just a hair over 5/8" tall. Maybe 1/32" over 5/8"....so that would be 21/32"

The Pickup Cover is pretty straight!

I expect it would be more due to my faulty vision looking at the fine lines of my Ruler.

I could have used my digital calipers, but I didn't!
