Despite my love of blues here's the song that I am so happy that I heard. It says more than I could ever say in a lifetime.

Here are mine:

"She Loves You" -- The Beatles:
Without this song, I wouldn't be a musician, I wouldn't be into music, I wouldn't be a Beatles fan and I probably wouldn't be who I am today. This song really speaks to me... When I was 9, I heard this song on the "1" album, and I loved it right away. This song did it all for me

"Not Fade Away" -- The Rolling Stones:
I heard this song when I was about 14, at a party my dad and I were at. I heard it on my dad's friend's mix of "The Best of The Stones", and I was intrigued at how awesome it sounded. I don't think I'd be a die-hard Stones fan like I am today had it not been for this song.

"American Girl" -- Tom Petty:
I first heard this song when I was 11, and I bought Tom Petty's "Greatest Hits" after I heard them cover "Taxman" by George Harrison. I knew this song was something else, and without it, I wouldn't own that Ric 660/12 TP that I do. I wouldn't look up to Tom like I do now.

"I Can't Explain" -- The Who
I have to thank this song in a way. I was mostly use to the calmness of The Beatles and Tom Petty, and the slight rawness of the Stones, and the only song I heard by The Who was "My Generation". It was the only song by The Who that I liked, and when I heard "Can't Explain", everything changed.

"Sunny Afternoon" -- The Kinks
The Kinks were a band whose only song I knew was "You Really Got Me". When I heard this song, I knew they had better than "You Really Got Me". This has to be my favorite Kinks track ever, and it shows how great they really are.

A coupla more.
Just love this one.

And this one. Supernatural. Not my favourite version by them, though.

And this one. Not really rock'n'roll and not even in English, but still.

Ignoring obvious tunes of my youth I have been happy to have heard, I always fall back on this one from Tom Waits. And I'm not a huge Waits fan.

Jake, those could be my very words, except substitute "7" for "9" and "Meet The Beatles" for "1". The year was 1964 and that is really is the song that started it all for me. Unbelievable, the Beatles' power to move us in precisely their way, still fresh and potent after 45 years. :!:

One more. My favourite from the older Fogerty. Or perhaps from both brothers.

Not sure exactly why but the whole album Desire by Dylan has always captivated in an inexpicable way. We named our first daughter after this song.
