I can't believe no one's pointed out the fact that this is a solidbody, and Rutherford's was semi hollow. But I guess that's what prog nuts like me are here for! :)

The details of the original remain a mystery, as Dick Knight took the missing links of information to his grave. There is some apocryphal info on the old section of RRF, but I doubt some of the "recollections," just like the way many Beatles stories, even when told by the actual witnesses, get muddied and conflicted from the effects of time on human memory.

Yeah, I think something was said about that in the last thread on Rutherford's instrument?
