I've no problem with the stereotypical orange Gretsches, the Tennesseans are maroon, though.

The latest word on my uncle's '60/'61 6120, for those who recall, is that she's in the shop getting fixed after who-knows-how-many years of sitting in his basement. The bridge was indeed replaced with a tune-o-matic and GLUED onto the body :( (not by my uncle...he bought it in '66). The neck has shifted but seems OK for now, the Filtertrons have oxidized a bit and there's concern they may not be working anymore. Much of the body was spared binding rot, thankfully, but it's separating on the neck.

Someday I'll get some pictures for y'all. It's a great vintage Gretsch with some incredible flame.

In addition, my `55 era DSW 6120 Chet Atkins/Nashville is amazing; the neck is really nice and slip-a dream to play. I have a `65 Tennessean as well, which was my first Gretsch. It's a winner as well. The only one that seems to sit in its case most of the time is an ancient, tobacco Sunburst `53 Electromatic, though it plays like a dream as well.
Damn, Sam!

Nope. The Tennesseans could be Orange, Maroon (sometimes termed "Walnut", and even Red Burst (Baldwin-era):

But I don't know which version Jerry was referring to; my mind simply goes to the orange ones first.

Thanks for posting those! I've only seen the Harrison Tennessean and the reissues, and some vintage ones that look really faded.

Here's mine. I've since reinstalled the original tuners and bridge:

The Monkees model didn't sell well because almost all their fans at the time were young girls, they had little cred with the real players. So the model evolved into the almost-identical Streamliner (minus sig-pickguard and TRC)
Also minus the vibrato, and different switch placement.I used my Streamer for a few years as the main weapon.Just one fine player.

I've got the limited edition David Lee White Penguin.......Kinda like the Stephen Stills version with the off white color but
this one has black binding and the world's coolest headstock logo. I'll see if I can locate a picture to put up.

That's one sweet guitar, Craig. I agree that the DL sig model is an incredible axe. I don't own one, but I've played one on several occasions.

FYI: David Lee was up until recently the guitarist for the psychobilly band Th' Legendary Shack Shakers, until he decided to go on "indefinite hiatus" to return to a professional cycling career (and he's got more tattoos than you can shake a truss rod at). The fact that he's more or less left the music scene ultimately cost him his endorsement deal with Gretsch, which is why you probably won't see too many of those David Lee sig models around much longer. There are still stocks to be found in music stores at the moment, but Gretsch has reportedly shipped the last of them. So if anyone wants a new one, grab one now before they're all gone. You will definitely not be sorry.

I do know they only made 30 of these. One went on ebay a couple of weeks ago for $2025.....incredible deal!!!.....mine
was MUCH more. There are a couple more out there available for $3600-$4200 which is more in line with what these babies
are really worth.

Well, I've found several Monkees Gretsches out there, but they've all crept up in price like all '60s guitars seem to do...
