Kudos to you David....we've done that as well. It's hard work, but it makes you realize what really matters. These folks usually go under the radar all year, so it feels good to lend a hand.
This year, we're running the food drive, so we'll be running from the church to the place that serves the folks who need it.
Wednesday night, the cutting and chopping begins. We usually have about 30 +/- this year looks about the same so we need to get a head start. We'll be making two turkeys and a ham this year. We're usually up until like 2am getting everything ready.
Thursday always starts by watching the Thanksgiving Day parade in NY CITY and feel home sick for the first half of the day. TOO much to list for the menu, but we have 7 different types of potatoes, Chestnut & Sausage and sage stuffing AND Oyster Stuffing (REALLY OLD New England Recipe), but we should have enough left overs for about a week! Sounds GROSS but it is amazingly good!
BLACK FRIDAY, Janey & the kids drag me out at 4am to go to some forsaken store to get trampled looking for those insane sales. This became a tradition since we moved to Florida, I have NO IDEA why. The kids drive to add an extra bit of excitement to the day!
Saturday, I slip into a coma. When I'm able to move again, I practice a lot. I have about 60 songs to go over for Sunday services.
Sunday, play a good part of the day! The musical highlight of my week. Get home about 8pm and do the coma thing again.

Wow, sounds like folks are going to have some good times for sure!
Me? Well Monday, I'm driving 250 miles (each way) to get to a decent hardware store to buy a bunch of supplies I need. The rest of the week will be spent putting a pump in the new well, running all the wire, installing the pressure tank and finishing up all the plumbing to get the new well on line.
If there's time, I need to get the electric lines run to the chicken house, then I can take my Rick out and play music to get them to lay more eggs!

Nah, just need to get some lights out there since it gets dark at 5PM this time of year.
Then there's lots of other stuff to get done around the ranch before winter really hits.
My wife will be making a few wonderful dinners (they pretty much all are wonderful) involving turkey, etc.

TC.....What an engaging read, man. The part about when you "slip into a coma" was rich. Props to you for runnin' the food drive, brah! No worries.....you'll survive the long weekend to tell us about it afterwards. Keep on keepin' on.....Goofyfoot.

All the kids will be home for Thursday, so I am all set. Turkey, ham, yam, stuffing, homemade cranberry sauce, piragis, dzeltenā maize, Grey Goose (c'mon over DP!) and Bombay Sapphire (c'mon over JB!) will fill the day. We plan to take in the new 007 movie en masse too this weekend. All I know is the 4 day weekend will be TOO SHORT.
A safe and fun-filled time with loved ones to all my forum family.

My Thanksgiving preparations began Sunday with the traditional ham stuffing.. this year was a record 17 hams! The ham is cooked and cooling waiting for slicing tomorrow. Tomorrow will be baking day bread, pumpkin pie, and maybe some gingerbread. Thursday is all about the bird! Family will be here parents, Steve's brother and sister and the kids. I will try to eat less this year but I wouldnt bet on it. Have a great Thanksgiving everyone. FYI I am very thankful for all of the friendships I have here on the forum. Have a great day everyone.

Let's see,
25 Nov came off the road, went home, started preparing food
26 Nov restring the 330, play it loud enough to kill the turkey, put the roast in the oven, have the kids and grandkids over for dinner
27 Nov sleep in

go over to my mom and sisters place for Thanksgiving dinner. Waddle out to the car
28 Nov go back out on the road
Best wishes to all of you and yours this Thanksgiving! Please be safe, I see far too many idiots and accidents out there on the road.

Yes, a very Happy Thanksgiving to all American forumites! The rest of the forum is invited to share in a toast to wish us
all the best in the coming year - really needed. But there is so much to be thankful for, so eat, drink, and be merry!

Now that I'm finally home from my last road trip (left MARF, got on a plane, racked up another 22,000 freq flier miles)...time to decompress.
Thankfully (!) I will be spending the day with relatives at their abode across town...my admission ticket is the wine since nobody else knows a lick about grape juice so I get off easy.
For me turkey day has always been a day of reflection...this year I'm particularly thankful to still be employed and in "the black". Looking back on the past year I can also say I've been blessed with many new friendships through this place and the gatherings I've been fortunate enough to attend. You guys and gals are a cut above!
And so a toast...(raises glass)...here's to all the forumites both far and near, thanks for the friendship and good cheer. Thanks to Peter for providing this space where all of us Ricken-nuts can congregate and escape the rat-race. And thanks to Jeffery, Joey and Chris - for the confluence gatherings that brought me much bliss.
OK, enough of the sappy stuff...let's eat!
