The third pickup does make a noticeable difference. It would be worth trying on a beat-up 620, of course to be paired with a JangleBox.

I realize that getting his tone without the RM compressor and the hollowbody is impossible, but I love the Byrds so much that I want to get a similar tone even if it's not using a Byrds song. Like even on my own songs, I'd LOVE to get a Byrds-y tone going on.
Just add a Jangle Box. That will get you there. The curve on the treble boost really does it.

That pleases me a lot, in fact, more than you'll ever know. Do Jangleboxes ever come around used? Or is there anything that compares to them? After paying for the 660, I'm a little low on scratch for awhile

Actually, you can get the tone with a 660, run it thru a Janglebox.I found that with my 660-12MB and a JB, I can get the same ,if not better ,tones as my 370-12 RM.

i have seen one 670/6 some years ago. ever since i have been thinking about it too. to get *that great 370/12 mcguinn sound* from solidbody is not beyond reach. e.g. 660/12 with old good rockman acoustic pedal sounds very much like hollowbody - the key is not to overdo anything. just a hint of top and body and it is right there. so i assume that adding third pickup and running the whole setup through the acoustic simulator and janglebox will get you there too. also far more player friendly is to assign extra volume knob to middle pickup or simply put there micro switch so the combo of the bridge and middle IS possible without neck pickup.

Thanks for all the compliments everybody, I really appreciate it.

And Kira, your advice couldn't be more appropriate. Last night I was playing around with it around 7:30 and just playing cover songs and writing little things for songs I already have and decided I'd stop at 9:00 and watch a movie that I noticed was coming on the dish, and when I stopped to check the time, it was 11:47! It's a very addictive guitar.
