The fretless neck is regular 34" scale, the "baritone" neck is 30" and tuned A-A - the lowest string is the same as an A string on a bass. It's an Alembic Series I from 1975. Here's a soundclip I recorded soon after it came into my guardianship: triple doubleneck

I've always wanted a 4080, but I don't think it will ever happen... I'm waiting for pics so I can drool!

Okay, we've seriously derailed this thread. If Dave doesn't post any pics pf his 4080's soon, I WILL!!

I used to have this Ibanez SG Double-Neck! And I owned a 1980 Rick Burgundyglo 4080-6 string identical to this one for about three hours! I saw this double-neck in a store in Salem for $1500.00 back in 1996 and just had to have it but had no cash, just gear.
So I loaded up my 1972 4001, a 74 Mapleglo 4001, my 800w Max Head and JBL 2-15 Stack and a Peavey 1810 speaker cabinet and set to dickering with the store owner.

I traded the '72 and '74 4001's and the 800w 2-15 stack for it.

So then I went home with the Burgundyglo 4080-6 and my 1810 speaker cab.
I had a Double-Neck as my only Bass and a speaker cab and no amp.

I was just fine until the Neck sellector Switch broke, about fifteen minutes after I started noodling with the bass.

After that it was like I went into shock. I called the guy about the switch and of course he says " just replace it"!

The whole thing just started crushing me, so I asked him to trade back and he did! He was quite ******, cuz he loved the '72 4001. The '74 4001 and Amp were just gravy on top.

Anyway, crazy but true!

Um... but I did post a 4080 pic... Oh well, here's another.

I found this one in a shop in Sydney. It eventually made it's way to Dave's Rickenbacker Vault, after he played a game of "The Money or The Envelope" with me last year at SoCal.
Dave is probably still recovering from the recent foreign invasion of his home. He was given a dose of the flu, courtesy of Graham, and pushed to the brink of collapse by our antics. He's also been heavily committed to work, although I hear he's still taking his evening ballet classes on Tuesdays.

The economy has my attention these days, so I do not have much time for posting.

Here are some shots of the doublenecks in their glory days. The collection has been disbanded a bit to fund a few 60’s Strats, amps and a 1958 B3.

In the works I have a 4080/12JG restoration and a Mike Rutherford project (the old glue together a 4001 and 360/12 trick).
