It may not have penetrated far into the varnish. Try getting some original T-Cut and rubbing it in, using a soft cotton cloth. If this doesn't take it out, it may have penetrated too far. Don't rub too much (more than a minute or two); the varnish in these areas is only about .007"-.010" thick.
Thanks for the advice. It's definitely connected to hand/arms position, as we've not seen the discolouration elsewhere, and there's strong correlation of forearm/thumb/pinkie position to blotch location. I'll suggest the T-Cut approach and see how it goes.

Thanks all for your responses - much appreciated. In the meantime I've asked for some more pics from a decent camera, I'll post when they turn up. Also, I suppose I'd better promote the band: see pics of the 4003 in action at http://www.mothersofmemphis.com/pictures.html - and Londoners can see the band on the usual live circuit. Do we have a "Come see your favourite RR contributer's band" section on the forum?

Have I missed a hand lotion gag somewhere? :)

What are you insinuating John?
The original post stated it was a female's bass and they tend to use hand lotions and that could explain the pattern and color of the discolorations. OP Tony should check and see if she's a user. Sorry, I couldn't resist.

And welcome aboard Tony!

As long as Ricks are involved the Rickenbacker Artists section is appropriate. :D
