That 8 saddle bridge is clearly non-factory. One interesting detail RIC gets right is matching the chrome on all of it's hardware so that it doesn't have the mismatched look of this piece. That tailpiece looks like the earlier tailpieces from the 4008 with it's "teeth" removed and the all of the string holes at the rear opened up into one opening.

I played my 8 last night for 3 hours ... and I think we all need fully adjustable bridges.

A '91, with some mods, just sold for $2,975.98 a couple of days ago. They are fantastic instruments. Not sure what it will sell for, but I'll be watching. What do you peeps think?
Looks like it sold for $3000. Anyone on the forum pick it up?

So, has anyone obtained the info about who makes that 8-saddle bridge?
I'd love to have one for an 8-string Rick bass because I'm an intonation freak!

I'm thinkin' that bridge is a one-off home made solution. It doesn't look like it would be too hard to piece one together.

And, nobody bought it with the Buy it now, increasing price auction, so now it's back with a 3 day auction, $2800 BIN. It's at $760 right now...

12 strings bassists a;most never tune all the strings perfectly to pitch. They will purposely tunes the fundamental strings to perfect pitch, then tune one of the octave strings slightly above perfect pitch and tune the other octave string slightly below perfect pitch (only about a cent). This gives a cool chorusing effect. Sometimes they will perfectly tune one of the octave strings, but the the second octave string is rarely tunes to perfect pitch, it's always + or - about 1 cent..
So why do the paired octave strings on an eight string bass always have intonate perfectly to the fundamental string?

Given the
option, I WOULD tune my 12 string perfectly, however, it's not possible to intonate it perfectly. I do try, though.

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, Paul.
Something that many of us Rick-obsessed freaks think that we may be afflicted with to some degree!

Thanks, Jeff! Got it. Guess I'm one of the afflicted bunch too.

Interesting that the 2 "extra" screws in the tailpiece to prevent tail lift seem to be missing. The bottom one looks like it might not even have a hole in the wood under it, but it could just be the angle.
So all 4003 S/8's have the "teeth" cut out on the tailpiece?
Not all of 'em. Mine's a '98:
