Not Kira, but...

Gretsch/FMIC gave away a Caddy Green Country Club at the NorCal Gretsch Roundup back in November. Wish I had known... a nice Weekend in the "wine country" and walking away with a Caddy Green Country Club... Sweet. [for someone]

Kira, are you saying your former Gretsch was "Lennonized" like a certain stripped down Epi Casino that comes readily to mind? :)

The body shape was full like in those photos, and it had been sanded and robbed of all the original furniture. I think I provided some mutt-ly replacement parts myself in order to get it playable. There was no discernible (to me) sign of its specific model name and in those days no googling going on.

The bare wood look was in, in those days, John having done it, Paul too (though he got a bit carried away) so I dug it. I really miss that guitar. It was a ton of fun to play. I used to busk in North Beach, San Francisco with that guitar and an original Pignose. 8)

Great story, Kira. Like a lot of us, I suspect you have a list of the ones that "got away" and you wish you had back. Now that bare wood in no longer in, I suspect an eventual trip to Paul W. would have been in the cards...

I remember working off and on for the musical instruments at Sherman Clay & Co. [back when they were a full line music store and not a "Pianos Only place" like now] and I was there when the first Gretsch came in... [they had just taken on the line] It was a Country Gent similar to Geroge's, and had the closed, painted/simulated/fake "f holes," a big pad with metallic piping of the back, mutes and all that. Being a Gibson and Ricky guy at the time, I took a look at it and thought to myself "weird". My how things change in the intervening forty years or so.

Thanks for sharing.

Beautiful score, brah! Props to you. Expanded my horizons a while back, too. Love that Gretsch "twaaaang!" I don't mean to hijack your thread by posting some pics of my Gretsches. Hope you don't mind. Peace, out.....Goofyfoot.

No hi-jack at all... Nice "twang machines" you have there!

My '57 Duo re-issue is a very early FMIC Gretsch [Jan 2003] and some of the minor details are a little bit "off" vis-a-vis the originals, but I really like it! Those Dynas are great, pretty "hot" pickups; much more punch than a FilterTron [which is also a great pickup]. I am also amazed at how loud the Tenny is un-plugged. Broadening horizons can be a good thing.

I am afraid if we keep posting pics like these, we are going to push Kira over the edge...

Take care,

JR

As it has been over 24 hours since her last posting here I think it is too late.

You may be right... Kira may be taking the "avoiding temptation" approach to things. With that recently acquired ES335 to get into shape, this course of action would make sense. Of course, not all of us are sensible.

Love that 6120. I found a copy of just that guitar in a local shop here in town, and I fell in love all over again. The shop clerk plugged in into a Vox AC30CC2 and I thought I'd died and gone to heaven...or was channeling Chet himself.
